Hi, I'm Leo the Zoo Reporter!
Let's help Tom write an exciting story about his trip to the zoo. We will learn how to start close to the action and zoom in on key moments!
Where Does Your Story Really Begin?
A good story starts close to the action — not too early! Look at the choices below. Which option is the BEST opening?
Where Should Your Story End?
Don't end too late! A great conclusion shows what lesson the character learnt without listing boring evening routines. Which ending is BEST?
Zoom In on Picture 2!
Instead of just writing: "Tom fed the monkey," good writers use FAAST details:
1. Feelings: How did Tom feel when sneaking the food?

A Nasty Surprise
Paragraph 1 (Beginning):
Tom and his family arrived at the zoo. They walked past the tall trees until they reached the monkey enclosure. A big red sign on the fence read, "Do Not Feed The Monkeys." Tom read it and frowned.
Paragraph 2 (The Sneaky Moment):
Tom quickly glanced at his parents. Mum was busy reading the information board and Dad was clicking away with his camera. Tom smiled to himself — this was his chance! He slowly reached into his pocket and pulled out a banana. "Just one banana," Tom whispered to himself. "What could possibly go wrong?"
Paragraph 3 (The Climax & Zookeeper Help):
Suddenly, the wild monkey lunged forward and gripped Tom's hand. Before Tom could pull back, the monkey snatched the food with sharp claws! A searing pain shot through Tom's fingers. Tears filled his eyes as he shrieked for help, calling urgently for the nearby zookeeper!
Your Added Idea:
Paragraph 4 (Ending & Lesson):
The zookeeper gently patched up Tom's wrist and reminded him that safety rules protect everyone. From that day on, Tom promised never to ignore warning signs again.
